VICTORIA PHILLIPS
Victoria Phillips, contemporary artist, lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Graphic designer, art director, and self-taught artist, attended years of art school and numerous workshops. One of them, the live model workshop with Javier Alonso, was where her interest in the human figure began, a recurring motif in her work. She works primarily with acrylics, oils, and oil pastels, materials that allow her to explore multiple possibilities and build a visual language of her own. Since 2025, she has trained in the workshop and clinics of Delfina Bourse.
Her paintings, mostly large-scale, are expressive and energetic. They explore the construction and deconstruction of the human figure through multiple layers and varied brushstrokes. The figures emerge, dissolve, and re-form. Her practice invites the viewer to recreate the image, a work that is ambiguous and open to interpretation. Her work draws on the more personal work and inner vision of German Expressionism, on the distortion of reality for subjective expression, and on the importance of gesture and materiality in Abstract Expressionism. Her graphic design background is visible in her particular use of color, with bold brushstrokes she mixes color directly on the canvas, creating endless possibilities.
